India – Myanmar shares a strong friendship bond with each other. Both countries have a unique arrangement called the Free Movement Regime (FMR), which allows people to visit families residing within 10 km on both sides of the border without visas or a passport.

Latest Developments

India plans to fence its entire border with Myanmar

  • According to Govt. officials and a parliamentary panel report, the 1,643-km-long border with Myanmar will be entirely ringed with an “anti-cut, anti-climb” fence in 10 years.
  • The fencing project was announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in February 2024. The work has gathered pace in the past three or four months.
